Turin Transfer Market: Abate Cuts Ties with Former Prospect; She Will Be Sold by August

From rising star to surplus player: Ivan Ilic’s time in Turin is coming to an end. The Serbian midfielder, who arrived in 2023 for 16.5 million euros from Verona—one of the most substantial investments of Urbano Cairo’s tenure—has limited market value but will be sold by the end of the transfer window anyway, to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2027, when his contract expires.

Torino coach Ignazio Abate made his decision clear on Sunday by not calling him up for the friendly against Burnley. The team’s recent poor seasons have deterred Premier League suitors, though the Piedmont-based club still hopes for interest from the Championship, England’s second division. Selling Ilic is a priority for sporting director Petrachi, who is looking for a club that can make him a central part of its project. Torino aims to recoup some of the money invested to help fund incoming transfers.

Meanwhile, the Lucas Perri deal is expected to close: Leeds is set to return to Europe after its U.S. tour, and the Brazilian goalkeeper could finally move to Italy to begin his adventure between the Torino goalposts.

Gvidas Gineitis is also on the market: Celtic Glasgow has submitted an official offer of 7.5 million euros for the Lithuanian born in 2004, which Torino has rejected, valuing him at around 15 million. The Scots are reportedly ready to raise their bid to 10 million, while several Bundesliga clubs have also expressed interest. Cairo and Petrachi aim to maximize the proceeds from this sale as well.
