Atalanta Transfer News: Dijmsiti Bids Farewell; A Familiar Face to Maurizio Sarri Joins the Team
Atalanta may soon say goodbye to one of its key players from recent years. After nine seasons with the Nerazzurri and a total of 334 appearances, Berat Djimsiti is getting closer and closer to a transfer to Saudi Arabia. Al-Diriyah has set its sights on the Albanian defender and is reported to have submitted an offer of approximately 3 million euros to convince the Bergamo-based club to let him go. A two-year contract worth a total of 6 million euros is ready for the center back, born in 1993—an offer that has effectively paved the way for the deal.
Atalanta has reportedly already given its approval for the transfer, and talks between the parties are ongoing to finalize the last details of the agreement. If the transfer goes through, the Bergamo club will need to enter the transfer market to replace a player who, over the years, has become a cornerstone of the defense.
Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is already working to identify the right candidate. Among the names that have been under consideration for several weeks is Alessio Romagnoli. The Lazio defender, who has also caught the eye of Al-Sadd, represents a solution that combines experience and reliability. Maurizio Sarri knows him well and would gladly welcome him back.
The most intriguing alternative, however, is Thomas Kristensen. The Danish center back, born in 2002, is considered a long-term investment but is already ready for top-level soccer, which is why Atalanta continues to closely monitor his situation with a view to making a move should Djimsiti’s departure become official.
As for Romagnoli, the Arab front has become more complicated in recent weeks. Negotiations with Al-Sadd have slowed sharply due to a series of non-soccer-related factors: the death of former Qatari Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa al Thani, which led to the declaration of national mourning, and tensions linked to an attack on an oil well have prompted the Qatari ministry to freeze investments in the sports sector in order to redirect resources toward defense. Vincenzo Raiola, the defender’s agent, provided an update on the situation, stating that Al-Sadd still wants Romagnoli but cannot sign any agreement until the ministry’s budget is unfrozen, adding that, in any case, he does not envision a future for his client at Lazio. These remarks sparked furious reactions from many Lazio fans on social media.
