Inter Transfer Market: Cristian Chivu Calls for Reinforcements: “We Need to Raise the Bar”
Cristian Chivu isn’t giving anything away about the transfer market, but he confirms that Inter is working to complete the roster. On the eve of the friendly against Juventus—the final match of the Nerazzurri’s intercontinental tour—the coach urges calm, while acknowledging that a few more signings will still be needed. “We’re confident, aware of the squad’s value. We need to raise the bar—we need players who can fit into a cohesive group that has achieved great things—to fill in the pieces of the puzzle that aren’t yet complete. There’s no set timeline, because the transfer window is long and we need patience,” Chivu explained.
The coach then admitted that plans to strengthen the right flank did not go as expected: “For various reasons, our choices for the right flank didn’t materialize. We’re working to add quality and experience. Let’s give our directors some breathing room.” Regarding the timeline for new signings, Chivu reiterated the club’s stance: “We haven’t set a deadline; the transfer window is long, and we know that patience is needed in certain situations, especially when some moves didn’t go as we’d hoped. We’re working on what we want to do—on what will allow us to raise our level, bring us quality, and provide a certain kind of experience. We just need to be patient and let our directors do their job.”
The coach then gave an initial assessment of the summer tour: “We’re missing a few pieces, but we also have a few weeks left to be in the best possible shape for the season opener. We’re working toward that. The most important thing is that we’ve had few physical issues; that’s encouraging, and we’re happy about it.” He then touched on his meeting with Luciano Spalletti: “We’re both concerned about our preparation and our current level of play. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Chivu still considers Inter the team to beat: “I haven’t done the math yet, but it’s always the same teams that want to give the defending champions a run for their money. Inter is the team to beat. Tomorrow is just a friendly, a preseason match to gauge our fitness level and see how well we’ve implemented certain principles, knowing that our legs aren’t in top form yet and aren’t running at full speed.”
