Napoli Transfer Market: Max Allegri’s Favorite Needs a Price Cut

Federico Gatti is also among the players who could be leaving Juventus. The defender, born in 1998, has caught the eye of Napoli, where Massimiliano Allegri is looking for a reliable center back to round out the defense and would gladly welcome a player he knows well. At the moment, however, negotiations are still in the early stages and the deal is far from done. Before reaching an agreement, the two clubs will need to find common ground, especially on financial terms.

Juventus does not appear willing to offer a discount and values the former Verbania, Pro Patria, and Frosinone player at around 24 million euros. This is a significant asking price, which serves as the starting point for any negotiations; Napoli—unwilling to negotiate on such terms—will nonetheless have to take it into consideration if they wish to make a move.

Gatti’s transfer is part of a squad restructuring plan that Juventus has been planning for some time. The defender, who arrived from Frosinone in 2022 for 9 million euros and has made 132 appearances for Juventus with 11 goals, has gradually lost his place in Luciano Spalletti’s pecking order, slipping behind Bremer, Kalulu, and Kelly. This situation had prompted him to consider offers as early as the winter transfer window, when concrete interest had come from Premier League clubs such as West Ham, Everton, Leeds, and Newcastle.

For Napoli, Gatti represents Plan B following the failure to sign Mario Gila: the Spanish defender, identified by Allegri as a top priority to bolster the defense, chose Milan by signing a five-year contract, leaving the Neapolitan management to fall back on other options. Gatti, who had previously been identified as an alternative to the Spaniard, has thus returned forcefully to the top of the list of candidates to bolster the Azzurri’s back line.
