Inter Transfer Market: Two Players to Sign First, Then Go All Out for the Englishman (and Make Chivu Happy)
Inter coach Cristian Chivu, buoyed by winning the league title on his first try, is waiting for good news from Marotta, Ausilio, and Baccin regarding the transfer market ahead of the season, which is now about to kick off. The team is expected to sign a new winger. Diaby is among the targets, but the deal could only go through if Al-Ittihad agrees to include players in the trade and if the player is willing to significantly reduce his current salary of 15 million net per season.
The possibility of signing Curtis Jones, a midfielder specifically requested by the coach, also remains on the table. The British player’s arrival, however, would depend on several departures: first, the club would need to find new homes for Asllani and Frattesi, as well as send Massolin out on loan.
To move the Diaby deal forward, Inter’s management is reportedly considering a detailed proposal for Al-Ittihad: According to Tuttosport, Inter is ready to offer up to 18 million euros in cash plus Benjamin Pavard, who is now considered expendable by both Chivu and the club. This solution would allow the club to resolve the right-back conundrum in one fell swoop and lighten the payroll by offloading the French defender’s hefty salary.
Meanwhile, the situation surrounding Cristian Romero is becoming more complicated. The Nerazzurri seemed on the verge of signing the Tottenham defender, having reached an agreement for around 40 million euros, but the slowdown in negotiations with the player’s representatives over the contract terms has opened the door for Atlético Madrid. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the Colchoneros have submitted a 30-million-euro offer to the Spurs, with Cuti reportedly pushing to play under Simeone. Inter therefore risks being left empty-handed on this front as well, after the Marco Palestra deal had already fallen through.
On the outgoing front, Davide Frattesi’s situation remains up in the air. The midfielder, who is struggling to find consistency and playing time, is expected to attend a meeting between his agent and club management to discuss his future. Juventus remains the most likely destination, with Inter valuing the player at around 25 million euros.
