Gianfranco Matteoli is extremely critical of Sebastiano Esposito: “Outrageous”

At Cagliari, the Sebastiano Esposito situation continues to spark debate: the forward had some issues with the club during contract renewal negotiations and subsequently submitted a medical certificate citing emotional stress; all of this took place amid a heated exchange of accusations between his agent, Mario Giuffredi, and the Sardinian club’s general manager, Stefano Melis.

Gianfranco Matteoli also weighed in on the matter; during an interview with *Corriere dello Sport*, he didn’t mince words: “I won’t get into the details of the negotiations with the club, but I find the medical certificate citing emotional stress scandalous. The kind of stress experienced by the farmer I saw this morning heading out to the fields under a blazing sun, or by my father, who used to get up at dawn to milk the sheep. Respect is needed; I would never have done something like that.”

The former Rossoblù star then assessed the team’s overall situation: “Cagliari is starting out among the teams fighting for survival, but it’s now a well-structured team. It might go through some tough times, but it won’t have any trouble avoiding relegation. Fabio Pisacane did well to overcome the initial skepticism; kudos to Tommaso Giulini for believing in him. Last season’s survival is also thanks to Angelozzi.”

On Friday at 6:30 p.m., the Sardinian side will take the field in the Round of 32 of the Coppa Italia against Arezzo, then make its league debut in an away match against Parma scheduled for Saturday, the 22nd, at 8:45 p.m. In the next round, Deiola and his teammates will face Inter.
