European Athletics Championships, Italian Men’s 5,000 Meters: Battocletti Wins Gold, Majori Takes Bronze

Nadia Battocletti shows no signs of slowing down and has once again proven herself to be the European queen of the 5,000 meters. Joining her on the podium is a brilliant Micol Majori, who staged an extraordinary comeback in the final stretch. Another double celebration for Italy at the European Championships in Birmingham, with two medals won in the same race at the start of the second evening of finals.
The star athlete from Trentino claimed her second consecutive gold medal in the event with a time of 15:37.84, defending the European title she won in Rome in 2024. It was a tactical final, controlled without any particular difficulty and then decided with a devastating surge with 250 meters to go.
Battocletti, this season’s indoor 3,000-meter world champion, changed her pace at the decisive moment and once again reaffirmed her supremacy at the continental level. Another title that fuels the Italian athlete’s ambitions; she now turns her attention to Friday’s 10,000 meters, where she will attempt to secure a second consecutive European title.
Behind her, Micol Majori is also celebrating. The Milan native put on a fantastic sprint down the home stretch, during which she gained three positions and claimed a bronze medal that had seemed far from certain the day before. Majori finished in 15:40.65, behind Spain’s Marta Garcia, who took silver in 15:39.98. Federica Del Buono, meanwhile, finished in 11th place with a time of 15:49.41.
