Corinthians Won’t Renew His Contract; Depay Loses His Cool on Social Media

Things are heating up between Corinthians and Depay. After about two years, the Brazilian club has decided not to renew the contract of the most prolific striker in the history of the Dutch national team.

In a press release, Corinthians announced that, for purely financial reasons, it is not possible to continue keeping the former striker—who has played for PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid, among others—on the payroll.

Unfortunately for Depay, he was certain that his agreement included a contract extension with the Brazilian club through June 2028. An option that Corinthians did not consider.

“I’ll speak publicly in the coming days, but rest assured that I won’t let this unacceptable behavior go unpunished,” he wrote in a harsh post on X. In short, the matter is certainly not over yet. Now it remains to be seen whether the Dutch player, born in 1994, will find a new home elsewhere. It could be a prime transfer opportunity, perhaps even for an Italian club.
