Milan Transfer Market: Finally, the First Two Sales—A Flood of Millions on the Way

Milan needs to make sales: with just over two weeks left in the summer transfer window, the Rossoneri need to step up their sales efforts in order to reinvest part of the proceeds into their final signings. After the Asian tour, Ruben Amorim named the players he no longer considers part of the project, and among them is Santiago Gimenez, who will be among the first to leave Milanello.

The Mexican forward has caught the eye of Porto, and according to rumors, he has already expressed his full willingness to join the Dragons. The forward is coming off a difficult year and a half with the Rossoneri, where he never managed to adapt to Italian soccer and where his playing time has dwindled even further following the arrival of Gonçalo Ramos. Porto and Milan are negotiating the terms; there is talk of a loan with an option to buy for around 20–22 million euros, which the Rossoneri want to make mandatory: they need to avoid recording a capital loss on their books.

The other player now on the verge of leaving is Youssouf Fofana. The French midfielder is outside of Amorim’s plans, as the coach doesn’t see a role for him in his system, and he is being closely monitored by clubs in the Premier League and La Liga. According to rumors, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, and Nottingham Forest have already approached the Rossoneri, as have Villarreal and Betis Sevilla. Milan is ready to accept an offer of 20 million euros for the French player.

In addition to Gimenez and Fofana, Amorim has ruled out several other players from the squad: the list of departures includes Fikayo Tomori, Filippo Terracciano, David Odogu, Warren Bondo, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pervis Estupinan, and either Yunus Musah or Samuele Ricci. Athekame’s loan to Lyon has already been finalized, while Cissé will move to Torino on the same terms. The Rafael Leao situation remains to be resolved: the Portuguese player would like a change of scenery, but the only concrete offer received by Milan is from Galatasaray, which the club considers completely insufficient, as it has no intention of selling its No. 10 for less than 60 million euros.
