Lukaku’s Press Conference: From Remembering His Father to Turkey, His “Second Home”

Romelu Lukaku is already head over heels for Fenerbahçe, his new team. Welcomed like a star, “Big Rom” was officially introduced. The former Napoli striker made some important statements, eager to prove he’s still capable of making a difference.
“I’m very happy to be here. Coming here is a source of great pride for me. I’ve wanted to join Fenerbahçe for quite some time. I’ve been waiting for this deal to go through for a month. Living in this wonderful country and being at Fenerbahçe is true happiness for me,” were his first words.
The former striker—who played for Manchester United, Inter, and Napoli, among others—also remembered his father Roger, who passed away some time ago: “Turkey is my second home. Now that I’m over 30, I’m coming to Turkey where my father played. His last goal was against Fenerbahçe.”
Then, he spoke about the goals to achieve with his new team: “What matters most are Fenerbahçe’s interests. Not individual ones… We want to win every cup we compete in. We want to be very competitive, even in Europe.” Finally, Big Rom made it clear that he is 100% fit and already ready to take the field to make his contribution: “I’m not injured,” he remarked, further thrilling Fenerbahçe fans who can’t wait to see him on the field wearing the jersey of their favorite team. In short, the Belgian international has already put his time with Napoli behind him and can’t wait to make his mark in Turkey wearing the Fenerbahçe jersey.
