Gianni Infantino’s Position New Zealand Football has announced that it is withdrawing its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and has called for an independent review of his controversial—and subsequently abandoned—plan to open FIFA up to private investors.
““After careful consideration, the NZF believes that certain decisions and actions within FIFA have contributed to a loss of trust and deepened divisions in international soccer,” the New Zealand federation stated.
“An independent review is needed to restore trust. This moment represents an opportunity for all FIFA-affiliated federations to promote stronger governance, greater accountability, and greater transparency—elements that are fundamental to maintaining trust in the management of world soccer,” the statement concluded. This is not the first time, and it will not be the last.
