Milan scores four against Manchester United; Gonçalo Ramos scores his first goal

Milan, under Amorim, notches its first win, closing out the final preseason match with a victory. The game, played in Poland against Manchester United, got off to a rough start for the Rossoneri, who conceded a goal to Maguire just two minutes in. The response came in the 37th minute, when Chukwueze scored the equalizer. Shortly after, young goalkeeper Torriani took center stage by stopping a penalty kick in the 42nd minute taken by former Udinese player Bruno Fernandes.

In the second half, Manchester United regained the lead thanks to former Lecce player Dorgu, but Milan responded once again: Cisse tied the game once more, capitalizing on an assist from Chukwueze. The Nigerian proved decisive again shortly afterward, delivering the cross that Gonçalo Ramos headed home for his first goal in a Rossoneri jersey. Loftus-Cheek’s goal took on special significance, given the controversy of recent days. His retention on the roster had sparked a full-blown uproar on social media among Rossoneri fans, who were convinced that Amorim would be letting the Englishman go just as he had done with Tomori, Fofana, Odogu, and Nkunku. “After Fonseca and Allegri, he’s fallen for it too,” someone had written, and critical comments had multiplied by the thousands. The midfielder, who has been with Milan since 2023 and has reached 100 appearances in the Rossoneri jersey, responded in the best possible way: on the field.

Rafael Leao, however, was absent, sidelined by a physical issue that also puts his availability for the Serie A opener against Torino—scheduled for Sunday, August 23—at risk. The Portuguese player’s situation, however, is intertwined with transfer market dynamics: following Thursday’s meeting at Milanello between Amorim and owner Gerry Cardinale, it emerged that the coach has given the green light to sell the No. 10, who is not considered central to the team’s plans. Milan has lowered his asking price from 50–60 million to around 40 million euros, bringing it closer to the offers received. Galatasaray remains in the running, having already offered Leao a contract worth 12 million net per season, but the Portuguese player’s true goal remains the Premier League.
