Milan Transfer Market: Juventus Wants the Surplus Player; Possible Trade on the Horizon
Milan is in a hurry to sell, and Juventus needs to buy: transfer talks between the Rossoneri and the Bianconeri could heat up again soon. The Old Lady has set its sights on Youssouf Fofana, one of the players cut by the Rossoneri’s coach, Ruben Amorim.
There is no room in the Portuguese coach’s squad for the French midfielder, who was cut during preseason training, and Juventus has thus added him to the list of candidates for the midfield reinforcements that Luciano Spalletti has long been requesting. The Bianconeri have been pursuing Franck Kessié for weeks, but the opportunity to acquire the former Monaco player at an affordable price is one they can hardly afford to pass up.
According to Sportmediaset, the player has already agreed to a move to Turin. The two clubs will need to reach a financial agreement: Milan values the player at around 17–18 million euros, but the figures could change if a player swap is included. In the event of a swap deal, the Rossoneri would be interested in Nico Gonzalez, who is set to leave Turin, although the Argentine would prefer to return to Atlético Madrid. Other names mentioned include Fabio Miretti and Teun Koopmeiners, who do not particularly interest the Rossoneri’s scouting team.
Juventus isn’t the only suitor for Fofana: the French midfielder has attracted interest from several Premier League and La Liga clubs, including Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, Villarreal, and Betis Sevilla. This means that Juventus, if it wants to close the deal, will have to act with some urgency to prevent the competition from snatching the player away.
Milan must deal with an outgoing transfer market that remains largely unresolved. In addition to Fofana, Amorim has ruled out several other players from the roster, including Fikayo Tomori, Christopher Nkunku, Santiago Gimenez, and Warren Bondo. With the season just around the corner—the Serie A opener is set against Torino—the Rossoneri absolutely must speed up their player sales in order to reinvest and provide their coach with a leaner roster better suited to his plans.
