Pedro Mendes’s future at Modena remains uncertain, and sporting director Nereo Bonato is already looking for possible alternatives that meet the new coach’s needs. According to Parlandodisport.it, Gennaro Borrelli’s name has come up in recent hours.

The forward, born in 2000, currently plays for Cagliari, for whom he scored six goals in 29 appearances last season and recently took the field in the Coppa Italia against Arezzo. Several Serie B clubs are interested in Borrelli, including the Emilia-based team, which may soon step up its efforts to bring him to Emilia.

Borrelli is a player who knows Serie A well and who, over the course of the season just concluded, has shown he can make a difference even in the most critical moments. A prime example of this was his performance against Genoa, when he scored a brace in the thrilling 3-3 draw at the Unipol Domus: first, a header off a corner kick, then a game-winning strike after dribbling past two opposing defenders. These performances did not go unnoticed and have helped fuel interest in him from several Serie B clubs.

It should also not be forgotten that Borrelli made a name for himself at San Siro, where he scored in Cagliari’s 2-1 victory over Milan on the final matchday of the season, a goal that cost the Rossoneri a spot in the Champions League and also earned him insults and threats on social media from some Milan fans.
