2026-2027 Premier League: Arsenal vs. Coventry—Probable Lineups

The world’s richest league—not only in terms of financial resources but also in terms of media impact—kicks off again on Friday evening at 9 p.m. Italian time (8 p.m. local time) with a matchup that hasn’t been seen in the Premier League since the 2000–2001 season: reigning champions Arsenal and newly promoted Coventry will kick off the 2026–2027 season of England’s top flight.
The Gunners couldn’t have gotten the new season off to a better start, crushing Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield, England’s Super Cup: the first official goal of the season was scored by Riccardo Calafiori, who found the net just seconds after kickoff, while Havertz in the 28th minute and Odegaard in the 48th minute sealed the victory. The team led by Mikel Arteta is ambitious and talented: however, their league opener against the Sky Blues could prove treacherous if taken lightly.
Coventry is led on the bench by a longtime Arsenal rival, former West Ham and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, who has managed to rebuild his career after somewhat disappointing stints as manager with the London Blues themselves as well as with Everton. The West Midlands team dominated last season’s Championship, returning to the Premier League 25 years after their last appearance—after having even fallen as low as the fourth tier. The move up a division will inevitably present challenges, but a good result against the Gunners could immediately boost their confidence.
