Goals and excitement in the first match of the 2026-2027 Serie B season: Vicenza defeated Catanzaro 3-2 in the game played Friday evening at Menti Stadium.

It was a thrilling contest between two teams that went head-to-head: the visitors opened the scoring in the 18th minute thanks to D’Alessandro. Set up by Alesi, the winger cut inside the box and sent the ball into the top corner with a splendid right-footed shot. The home team responded strongly, and after three missed chances, Cuomo equalized in the 39th minute with a powerful header off a corner kick taken by Costa.

Early in the second half, Catanzaro regained the lead thanks to Verrengia, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by the Venetians to score on a tap-in following a corner kick. The Biancorossi responded immediately, with Pellizzari hitting the post in the 60th minute.

As the minutes ticked by, the home team definitively took control of the game and pushed higher up the field, while Catanzaro sat too deep and struggled to mount counterattacks. Pigliacelli saved the Calabrians in the 64th and 68th minutes on shots by Pellizzari and Valoti, but in the 80th minute, Vicenza tied the game at 2-2: Following a corner kick, Pietrelli scored the equalizer with a header, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Catanzaro.

Vicenza pressed for the win against a Catanzaro team on the ropes and was rewarded in the 89th minute: substitute Morra scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Rauti (Pigliacelli could have done better on that play). At the final whistle, Gallo’s team secured its first win of the season.
