Cagliari Transfer Market: Rivalry with Torino for the Midfielder

Tommaso Giulini wants to further strengthen Fabio Pisacane’s Cagliari and has dusted off an old transfer idea: in recent hours, the Sardinian club’s executives have reestablished contact with the representatives of Ilias Koutsoupias, the Greek midfielder from Frosinone.
Koutsoupias was very close to a move to Sardinia in 2021, when he was coming off an excellent season with Virtus Entella, but the deal fell through due to some bureaucratic issues: “It was all set—so much so that my girlfriend and my father had already packed our bags for Cagliari,” the player said in an interview. “On the last day of the transfer window, there were some hitches, and I was forced to go to Ternana, a club where I’ve been very happy. The contract was filed at the very last minute. It’s normal that for a 19-year-old who finds himself in Serie A and then sees it all slip away, you take it hard right then and there. I won’t hide the fact that for two years I couldn’t get over it.”
Now, the Greek star has another chance to transfer to Cagliari, but the Sardinian club faces competition from Torino. The Granata made their move last week, but Koutsoupias seems to prefer the Sardinian destination: talks are underway, and major developments are expected in the coming hours.
Frosinone doesn’t have much room to negotiate: the player’s contract expires in June 2027, and the club is forced to sell him during this transfer window to avoid the risk of losing him for free in less than 12 months.
