Milan Transfer Market: A Turning Point for the Rossoneri—Another Transfer Is Finalized

Milan is cashing in on Christopher Nkunku. The French forward, who arrived in the summer of 2025 from Chelsea, had been rejected by Ruben Amorim, who—during preseason training camp—did not consider him a good fit for his system and placed him on the transfer list.

After just one season in Milan, the former Blues player will thus return to Leipzig, where he had played from 2019 to 2023 and burst onto the scene in the Bundesliga, catching the eye of the Premier League giant. Nkunku is moving on a paid loan for 4 million euros, with an option to buy set at 28 million.

The player is in Germany for his medical exam and to sign the contract. At Milan, he played a total of 35 games, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 decisive assists. Thanks to his departure, the Rossoneri will save nearly 10 million euros gross in salary this season and will receive the 4 million from the paid loan.

In addition to the Germans, Newcastle had also expressed concrete interest, even reaching a verbal agreement with the player’s agents on contract terms, though they never formalized an official offer to the Rossoneri club. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, had made inquiries in recent weeks but ultimately did not follow through. Nkunku had also been left off the bench for the league opener against Torino—an unmistakable sign that he was on the periphery of Amorim’s technical plans. After the summer tour, the Portuguese coach had clearly communicated to management the names of the players to be released, with the Frenchman at the top of the list alongside Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, and David Odogu.
