Genoa swoops in on the striker leaving Lazio

New reinforcements are on the way for Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa. After being linked in recent days to El Shaarawy, the Grifone—according to the latest rumors reported by Sky—has set its sights on Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri.

According to the satellite broadcaster, the deal is at an advanced stage, and the Rossoblù are pushing to finalize it in the coming hours. The forward, born in 2002, has a contract expiring in 2027: Gennaro Gattuso has reportedly given the go-ahead for the player’s transfer. Genoa is waiting for the player’s approval of the transfer to Liguria before making a move for the Biancocelesti winger, who in recent weeks had also been targeted by Fiorentina, Torino, and Parma—though none of those clubs ever made a concrete offer.

Last season, under coach Maurizio Sarri, Cancellieri played 35 league games, scoring four goals and recording two assists. So far this season, he has played 45 minutes in Serie A in his debut with Bologna, and 79 minutes in the Rome-based team’s loss to Mantova in the Coppa Italia.

According to reports in *Il Secolo XIX*, the Rossoblù have also considered Stephan El Shaarawy, who became a free agent in June after leaving Roma: the former Italian national team player is familiar with the Roma coach and would be willing to return to Genoa, the city where he took his first steps in professional soccer. In midfield, however, the Ligurian club has reportedly set its sights on Rolando Mandragora, who is set to leave Fiorentina for a fee of around 10 million euros.
