Italvolley: Paola Egonu and her teammates’ opponent in the round of 16 has been decided

Bulgaria will be the opponent for Julio Velasco’s Italian team in the round of 16 of the CEV Trendyol EuroVolley 2026. The Italian team, which finished first in Pool D, will face the national team led by Italian coach Marcello Abbondanza, which finished fourth in Pool B.

The matchup was determined following tonight’s match, in which Bulgaria was defeated 3-0 by the Czech Republic, a result that finalized the group standings. Italy and Bulgaria will face off on August 30 or 31 in Brno, Czech Republic, at the BVV Veletrhy (Pavilion P, Brno Exhibition Center).

A spot in the quarterfinals is at stake. The winner of the match between Italy and Bulgaria will then face the winner of the match between the Czech Republic and Sweden. The other Round of 16 matchups, which depend on the final standings in Pools A and C, have yet to be determined.
