MotoGP, Aragon Sprint: Marc Marquez Takes Center Stage Again, Bezzecchi Has to Settle for Less. Bagnaia’s Nightmare

Marc Marquez won the Sprint Race at the Aragon Grand Prix, the first of two races on the schedule for the season’s 13th race weekend. The nine-time world champion, riding his Ducati, finished ahead of his younger brother Alex (Ducati Gresini) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), who started from pole position but was overtaken by the Catalan brothers early in the short race.

Finishing in the points but off the podium were Pedro Acosta (KTM), Jorge Martin (Aprilia), Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati Gresini), Diogo Moreira (Honda LCR), Raul Fernandez (Aprilia Trackhouse), and Johann Zarco (Honda LCR), the latter making his return from the injury he suffered in Barcelona in mid-May. It was another day to forget for Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati), who finished Saturday’s short race in eleventh place and failed to score any points toward his championship total.

As for the other Italians, Enea Bastianini (KTM Tech3) finished in fourteenth place, while Franco Morbidelli (Ducati VR46) and Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia Trackhouse, racing in place of Ai Ogura, who was injured in practice) finished at the back of the pack, placing eighteenth and nineteenth, respectively. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati VR46) and Luca Marini (Honda), however, did not finish the race; Marini was also forced to visit the medical center after his crash to have his condition checked.

In the overall standings, Martin continues to lead with 245 points. He is followed by Bezzecchi with 216, Marc Marquez with 212, and Ogura with 203. Di Giannantonio’s crash prevented him from surpassing the 200-point mark: the Roman rider from the team founded by Valentino Rossi remains on 199 points in the standings.
