No Troyes—Massolin is staying in Italy
Just when it seemed certain that Yanis Massolin would return to France, with Troyes in pole position and other Ligue 1 clubs waiting in the wings to see how the situation would unfold, Cagliari pulled off a last-minute coup, securing the French player—who turns 24 on September 20—on loan from Inter. It was a deliberate move by Inter, who preferred to keep Massolin in Italy to monitor more closely the talent they had acquired from Modena.
The Rossoblù club announced Massolin’s arrival on Monday with an official statement: “Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the acquisition of the sporting rights of soccer player Yanis Massolin, who joins the Rossoblù from Inter on loan through the end of the 2026–2027 season, with an option to buy and a buyback clause” according to the Sardinian club’s official channels.
Born in 2002, Massolin took his very first steps on the field wearing the jersey of Moulins, the club in his hometown, before moving through the youth academies of Evian, Annemasse Gaillard, Meyrin, and FC City. As a senior, he established himself with Moulins Yzeure, Clermont, and Francs Borains before catching the eye of Modena, which signed him in the summer of 2025.
A consistent standout for the Canarini in the first half of the 2025–2026 season, Massolin was acquired by Inter at the close of the winter transfer window, though an agreement was reached with the Emilia-Romagna club allowing the player to finish the season at Modena on loan. Now a new adventure awaits: Cagliari and Serie A are on the horizon.
