Francesco Totti has officially joined the Maxima Roma project. The former Roma captain has taken on the role of advisor to the ownership, with responsibility for fan base development and corporate social responsibility initiatives. This marks a new challenge for one of the most iconic figures in Italian sports, who has chosen to lend his experience and name to an ambitious basketball project in the capital.

Maxima Roma’s goal is to build a long-term, sustainable path, with the ambition of bringing Rome back to the top of Italian and European basketball, starting with the LBA Serie A and the EuroCup. This project extends beyond results on the court, aiming also to foster the growth of basketball in the region and to develop new generations of players. After a career that has made him one of the most recognizable icons of Italian sports, Totti will now lend his expertise to a sports and business initiative with deep roots in the capital and international ambitions. His joining the club stems from a shared vision aimed at building a sports institution capable of standing the test of time.

Totti’s decision to enter the world of basketball also reflects his desire to support a sport that is experiencing strong growth in Italy and Europe but still has significant room for development in Rome. According to Maxima Roma’s philosophy, basketball can become a tool for building community, creating shared experiences, and, above all, engaging younger generations.

The project stems from the convergence of Rome’s identity and an international vision of basketball. Ambition, excellence, trust, joy, belonging, and responsibility are the values championed by the club—the same values that have guided Totti throughout a career built on an unbreakable bond with a jersey and a city. “I was looking for new inspiration and felt the desire to put myself to the test by taking on a new challenge. The role—and, above all, the project—that was proposed to me convinced me right away. I’m very happy to be an active part of this project, and I thank the club for the trust they’ve placed in me.”

The former number 10 then outlined the goals for this new journey: “The first goal will be to build a solid group, strengthen the team, and create all the conditions necessary to become a top-tier team in the Italian league. Then we’ll set our sights on Europe and beyond. Ambition is important, but even more so is the desire to build something that will stand the test of time: we want to give Rome and its people a basketball team to root for—one they can identify with and be proud of.”
