Rome Transfer Market: Leweling Snubs the Giallorossi; Plan B Kicks In

New problems for Roma, which is looking for a winger to round out Gian Piero Gasperini’s roster. On Monday, the Giallorossi had reached a financial agreement with Stuttgart for the transfer of Jamie Leweling for a total of 35 million euros, but by evening, they received a cold shower.

As reported by Sky, Leweling informed Roma of his desire to remain in Germany, thus derailing the entire deal just a few hours before the close of the summer transfer window. Now the club’s executives will have to come up with a Plan B: there are two alternatives.

The first is Luiz Henrique, a forward for Zenit St. Petersburg. Despite their pursuit of Leweling, the Giallorossi never gave up on the Brazilian winger, so they reached an agreement for a loan with a 5 million euro fee and an option to buy for 30 million. In addition, the option for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is still on the table: Roma has proposed a deal to Chelsea similar to the one for Luiz Henrique, with a buyout clause set at 55 million. The Giallorossi need to act quickly: another target, Malick Fofana, is definitively off the table and will be heading to Arsenal.

The need to strengthen the left side of the attack was reiterated by Gasperini himself, who stated: “Now, to complete the squad, we need to shore up the left side with a fullback and a forward. Lulli has helped out a bit; he’s delivered important performances as I’d hoped, but we can’t burden him with too much responsibility.” As for Luiz Henrique, Roma can count on one key factor: the Brazilian has reportedly already expressed his desire to move to the capital, prioritizing the Giallorossi over any other potential offers.
