Como coach Cesc Fabregas revealed at a press conference some behind-the-scenes details from the final days of the transfer window that left him with a bitter taste in his mouth. The Como coach has set his sights on goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist, who transferred to Monza at the very last minute.

The Swedish goalkeeper, Butez’s backup, suddenly requested a transfer toward the end of the summer transfer window: according to Fabregas, this move put Como in a difficult position. “We weren’t looking for a goalkeeper. Five days ago, Noel Törnqvist came to me saying he had a couple of transfer options. I was very honest: if we’d found another goalkeeper, he could have left; otherwise, he would have had to stay, because we need three goalkeepers.”

“The next day, he came back to me. For eight months, I’d seen an incredible person, and in two days, I saw a different one. It was a bad experience, and I’ll say this publicly: he really pushed to leave, and I didn’t like that.”

That’s when the solution came in the form of Robert Sanchez, who arrived from Chelsea: “We also looked for Italian goalkeepers, in Serie B and other leagues, but we didn’t find what we were looking for. Then Chelsea signed Emiliano Martínez, and the opportunity with Robert Sanchez arose. We made an offer, and he accepted right away.”
