Juventus Transfer Market: Moves Are Picking Up Pace for the Sale of the Player Left Out by Spalletti
Juventus is about to finalize its last outgoing transfer of the summer transfer window: Edon Zhegrova is expected to leave Turin in the coming days. The Kosovar winger has been left off the UEFA roster for European competitions by coach Luciano Spalletti—another signal from the Tuscan coach to the player, who is no longer considered a key part of the club’s plans.
It’s unlikely that Zhegrova will remain on the roster as an extra player for six months, so he is seeking a solution elsewhere, in countries where the transfer window is still open. The frontrunner is Al-Ittihad, which plays in the top Saudi league: the Saudi club has already contacted the player and received full approval from Juventus, which is open to any form of transfer just to offload the winger’s hefty salary.
Al-Ittihad’s official offer is expected in the coming hours: Juventus will even accept a simple loan proposal. Zhegrova, who arrived last summer for just over 14 million euros, has played 28 matches in all competitions for Juventus, without scoring a single goal.
The Kosovar’s time in Turin has been marked from the start by inconsistent performance that has fallen short of expectations. The comparison with his performance in France is stark: during his three and a half years at Lille, Zhegrova scored 26 goals, establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s most dangerous wingers. In black and white, however, physical issues related to groin pain—which had already forced him to undergo two surgeries—compromised his consistency, effectively making it impossible for him to reach his full potential.
Before the Saudi deal materialized, the player had been persistently linked to Lazio. Lazio’s sporting director Fabiani had publicly confirmed the talks, and the Rome-based club had put forward a concrete proposal: a loan without an obligation to buy, with a salary of approximately 2.5 million euros deemed sustainable. The negotiations, however, came to nothing: in addition to concerns regarding the player’s past physical issues, the parties were unable to reach an overall agreement.
