Paul Matiasic introduced Maxima Roma, the capital’s new club that aims to surprise everyone right from its first year. The former owner of Pallacanestro Trieste outlined his project at a press conference, which also involves Roma legend Francesco Totti as an advisor to the club.

“He is the heart of Rome. He’ll play a very important role—not just a symbolic one. He’s our captain. Rome deserves great basketball and a new model of sports entertainment. The goal is to win and reach the top as quickly as possible.”

The former soccer player can’t wait to get started: “I was on a different path, but when I met Paul and he told me what he wanted to do for Rome, I was convinced. Here, they’ve made me feel valued and part of the project. There were opportunities in the world of soccer that I could have accepted, but I wasn’t as convinced. I also spoke with Malagò about the national team, but it was just a casual chat.”

“We’re hungry to rise to the top,” said Matiasic. It wasn’t easy to build this team; it was a long process, and now we want to reach the highest levels.” The main goal is the NBA Europe championship: “We’ll establish a foundation by investing five million euros: the city will be fully involved in our project.”
