Yet another tragedy: Farewell to the lawyer known as the “king of speed.” The circumstances remain unclear

Tragedy in the world of Spanish motorsports. Pablo Amorós died while competing in a GTI Trophy race at the Monteblanco Circuit in Huelva. The single-make series features drivers competing in track-prepared Volkswagen Golf IV GTIs. The passing of Amorós, considered one of the veterans of the Spanish racing scene, has caused great sadness.

A lawyer by profession and an amateur driver, Amorós had extensive experience in motorsport. Over the years, he had competed in both rallies—achieving good results in off-road events as well—and circuit races. He had competed in championships such as the Copa Kobe and the GTI Trophy itself, and was also a regular presence at the Jarama circuit.

The circumstances surrounding the accident in Monteblanco are still under investigation. According to the few available images from the race, one of the hypotheses being considered is a possible mechanical issue with the Golf driven by Amorós. After a restart, the driver reportedly approached the first turn at a very high speed, unable to slow the car down before colliding with another competitor. The driver involved in the collision was also immediately attended to at the Huelva circuit.

Shortly after the incident, a statement was released by the organizers of the GTI Trophy, who expressed their deepest condolences for the death of Amorós and offered their support to his family, friends, and loved ones.

Numerous organizations in Spanish motorsports joined in offering their condolences, remembering a driver who had dedicated his time, resources, and energy to his great passion for racing.
