Ducati, Tardozzi: “Marc Marquez doesn’t shift the blame onto others”

Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi, in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo, praised Marc Marquez and the work he is doing to win his second consecutive MotoGP World Championship despite his precarious physical condition and a bike that isn’t as dominant as those of previous years.

“Marc has matured even further since the crash in Indonesia, because he went through a very difficult period. It took him many years to recover from what happened in 2020. Unfortunately, the crash in Indonesia was serious, and the real issue is that it took many months to figure out exactly what the problem was—a problem they only tried to resolve after Jerez with another surgery.”

“Now we’ll see in the upcoming races: I believe that by the end of September, after Misano and Spielberg, we’ll see what level Marc is at. I think by the end of September we’ll know whether we’ll be in contention for the World Championship or not.”

What made the difference was the character of number 93: “Humility is the trait that struck me the most. It’s a trait possessed only by great champions, because you have to tell fast riders that they’re good—he already knows that. When he comes into the pit, he demonstrates his leadership; he’s a motivator, someone who takes responsibility for problems—he doesn’t pass his problems on to others.”

Bagnaia’s difficulties: “Pecco wasn’t able to keep up with the development we’ve been working on. I don’t think Marquez influenced him in the slightest, and Pecco respects him. Marc has always behaved in an exemplary manner, and our collaboration has been exceptional.”
