Stavropoulos kicks off the season for Olimpia Milano: “The Super Cup is a title, and every title is important to us”
Olimpia Milano wants to kick off the season with a trophy. With just a few days to go before the official start of the 2026–27 season, Christos Stavropoulos clearly outlined the goal for Coach Peppe Poeta’s team in the 2026 LBA SisalClub Super Cup, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, at the Nova Arena in Tortona.
The General Manager of Armani Olimpia Milano, speaking at the press conference to present the event, first emphasized how pleased he was to compete in the new Piedmontese arena.
“We’re very happy to be in Tortona and to play the Super Cup in such an impressive venue.”
However, Milan will head into the event after a preseason that was inevitably affected by its players’ international commitments. In fact, it was only in the last few days that the coaching staff had the opportunity to work with the entire roster.
“It’s still a delicate phase of our preparation because, like many other teams, we’ve only been able to work with the full squad for a few days now, following the players’ commitments with their national teams.”
This situation, however, does not change Olimpia’s ambitions. For Stavropoulos, the Super Cup isn’t simply a stepping stone toward the new season, but the first concrete goal to strive for.
“We’ll still try to show up in the best possible condition, because the Super Cup is a title, and for us, every title is important.”
The Olimpia executive also spoke about the major overhaul carried out over the summer. Milan has made several changes to the roster with the aim of achieving greater balance and building a team where new arrivals can integrate with more experienced players.
“This summer we’ve made a lot of changes, trying to build a more balanced team and a group capable of bringing together new players and experienced veterans.”
The Super Cup will therefore be the first test of a project that aims high on both fronts. Olimpia aims to be a contender in Italy while simultaneously making a strong run in the EuroLeague.
“We want to embark on an important journey, both in Italy and in the EuroLeague, and we’ll naturally try to get off to the best possible start by winning this competition.”
