US Open: Sascha Zverev Reaches the Semifinals and Closes in on Jannik Sinner

Zverev is unstoppable. The German advances to the semifinals at the U.S. Open, defeating Van De Zandschulp in three sets: 6-2, 7-5, 6-1, with the Roland Garros champion taking the match.

The German champion dominated the match, managing to weather the few moments when he found himself in trouble, such as when the Dutchman led 5-4 in the second set. Now he faces Khachanov, currently ranked No. 50 in the world, in the semifinals: “He’s someone who works incredibly hard. He’s always looking for new ways to improve. Whoever dominates from the baseline and plays aggressively will, I believe, take home the victory,” said the German about his semifinal opponent.

As the only semifinalist to have already won a Grand Slam, Zverev is now the clear favorite to win the US Open, thanks in part to Alcaraz’s exit.

Meanwhile, Zverev continues to rack up ATP ranking points and close in on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Should he win the trophy, the gap would narrow significantly (to a total of 1,810 points).
