Four teams take the field at City of Cagliari

With the Sardinia Cup now in the books—marked by victories for Esperia Cagliari and New Basket Brindisi—the court on Via Rockefeller in Cagliari is ready to deck itself out for one of the most anticipated preseason events: the 16th edition of the “City of Cagliari” International Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13. This high-profile four-team tournament will feature four powerhouses from the European basketball scene.

The Teams
- MAXIMA Rome: The big news of the season. Founded in 2026 based on the vision of entrepreneur Paul Matiasic (following the acquisition of the Brescia franchise), the team brings top-tier basketball back to the capital, with Francesco Totti serving as an advisor for CSR and fan engagement. On the bench is head coach Matteo Cotelli, who leads a star-studded roster packed with NBA and EuroLeague talent such as Aaron Holiday, Xavier Moon, Matt Ryan, and John Brown III, alongside established stars from our league like Miro Bilan, Carl Wheatle, Brynton Lemar, and Mirza Alibegovic.
- FC Bayern München Basketball: The historic German club arrives in Cagliari under the guidance of head coach Anton Gavel and captain Vladimir Lučić. The Bavarian team showcases its prestigious new summer signings: 2023 World Champion Johannes Thiemann, joined by high-impact players such as Duane Washington Jr., Austin Wiley, MarJon Beauchamp, Miles Norris, and Tobias Jensen.
- Hapoel Tel Aviv: An Israeli team characterized by its unique fan-owned structure, led by head coach Dimitris Itoudis. Hapoel boasts an elite roster led by Tomas Satoransky, Eugene German, former Olimpia Milano player Zach LeDay, and a group of NBA-caliber players including Amir Coffey, Frederic Bourdillon, Jacob Toppin, and new signing Max Heidegger.
- LDLC ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne: The multiple French champions feature Tony Parker in a dual role, serving as both president and head coach. ASVEL brings big names from the world of basketball to Sardinia, such as Patty Mills and Jae Crowder, along with Tremont Waters and TyTy Washington Jr. The perimeter lineup is rounded out by Hugo Besson, Myles Cale, Edwin Jackson, David Lighty, and Both Gach, while under the boards the team’s anchor is Joel Bolomboy, supported by Mathis Dossou-Yovo, Bodian Massa, Nate Sestina, Yves Pons, and the young Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada.
