2026-2027 Serie A: Atalanta vs. Cagliari, probable lineups

Atalanta and Cagliari will face off at 8:45 p.m. on Matchday 4 of Serie A at the New Balance Arena, home of Atalanta. The two teams have started the season on a similar note, with two wins and one loss each: even though the season is still in its early stages, the points at stake are crucial for shaping the second half of September, which could already say a lot about both teams’ ambitions.
Maurizio Sarri’s revamped Atalanta started with two straight league wins—2-1 against Sassuolo and 1-0 against Bologna—but their first test against a top-tier team resulted in a bitter comeback defeat against Roma: Ederson’s goal early in the second half wasn’t enough, as the Giallorossi turned the game around between the 89th and 93rd minutes with goals from Hermoso and Soulé. The Nerazzurri also lost Gaetano: the former Cagliari player will be forced to sit out due to a suspension, after receiving a red card off the field during the frantic final moments of the match.
Cagliari, on the other hand, has won two head-to-head matches so far, defeating Parma and beating Lecce 1-0 in both instances. The loss to Inter (also 1-0) was expected, and the defeat in the Coppa Italia against Hellas Verona (2-1 at the Unipol Domus) was quickly put behind them. The islanders’ last win in Bergamo dates back to February 6, 2022: a brace by Gaston Pereiro proved decisive on that occasion, securing a 2-1 victory at Atalanta’s stadium; Atalanta scored through Palomino but were reduced to ten men in the 53rd minute after Musso was sent off.
