Napoli Transfer Market: Massimiliano Allegri’s Future in Doubt—Three Unattached Coaches Ready to Seize the Opportunity

Sunday’s 6:00 p.m. match between Napoli and Bologna will be a crucial turning point for Massimiliano Allegri, who—after a last-minute victory over Genoa—has suffered three consecutive losses: a 2-1 home defeat to Como, 3-2 to Inter at San Siro (after squandering a two-goal lead), and 1-0 to Arsenal in the Champions League at the “Maradona” Stadium. Another misstep—especially against a team that has earned just one point in three games—could trigger a major upheaval in the Napoli locker room, starting with Allegri himself.

At least three coaches currently without a team are keeping a close eye on the situation. The name circulating from multiple sources is that of Raffaele Palladino, who is looking for the opportunity of a lifetime after his abrupt departure from Atalanta at the end of last season. The coach from Mugnano is also being courted abroad, but Serie A is his priority, and an offer from Napoli—especially given his ties to the city—would be irresistible.

However, Palladino isn’t the only name linked to the Napoli coaching position: Thiago Motta is also in the running; after being fired by Juventus in March 2025, he hasn’t taken the helm of any other teams. His contract with Juventus is no longer an issue: this past summer, the Piedmont-based club exercised the early termination clause, permanently ending the agreement that was originally set to last until 2027.

There is also a third name that has returned to the spotlight in recent days: Sergio Conceição. The Portuguese coach has wrapped up his stint with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and feels ready to make his mark again in Serie A, where his impact with Milan in the second half of the 2024–2025 season fell short of his expectations, despite winning the Italian Super Cup. The former midfielder for Lazio, Parma, and Inter wants to prove he belongs in the Italian league and wouldn’t say “no” to a call from Aurelio De Laurentiis.
