Serie B: Sampdoria Loses Again in Mantua; Avellino and Palermo Draw

Bernardo Corradi’s Sampdoria suffered its third straight loss: the Blucerchiati were defeated 2-0 in Mantua and remain at the bottom of the Serie B standings with just one point. After a closely contested first half, Mantua pulled ahead in the second half thanks to goals by Ruocco in the 58th minute and Longonda in the 66th minute.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Ligurians, who missed a penalty kick by Lauritsen in the 64th minute. Thanks to this victory, Mantova climbs to the top of the standings with 10 points, tied with Palermo, which drew 1-1 with Avellino in Sunday’s other match.

Both goals came in the second half: Cheddira’s goal in the 60th minute was answered by Johnsen for the Rosanero in the 63rd minute off an assist from Pohjanpalo. Avellino sits in fourth place with 7 points.
