They Leave Serie A and Make a Fresh Start: From David to Gimenez, Including Vlahovic and Many Others

It’s not the first time this has happened, but it always makes quite an impression. Several forwards who left Serie A this summer are finding their form elsewhere, as if seeking redemption after falling far short of expectations in Italy’s top league.

The latest example is David. The Canadian striker, transferred from Juventus to Atlético Madrid, scored his first goal for the Colchoneros in Simeone’s team’s 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad. It’s a goal that could break his scoring drought and, who knows, make him a source of regret for Juventus fans.

Gimenez has also broken his scoring drought. The former Milan striker ended a scoring drought that had lasted about a year by netting the goal that sealed Porto’s 4-1 victory over Casa Pia. The Mexican scored on a penalty kick, but he scored nonetheless (he has already matched his entire goal tally from last season with the Rossoneri, when he, in fact, scored just one goal).

Add to this list Vlahovic (who scored a hat trick against Besiktas), Nkunku, Openda, and even Fullkrug. In short, those who leave Serie A seem to magically rediscover their lost scoring touch. It’s not the first time this has happened, but it’s still a fact that always gives one a lot to think about.
