Inter risks losing John Stones and Hakan Calhanoglu for next weekend’s big Serie A match against Roma. The English defender was forced to leave the game in the 62nd minute of the San Siro match against Udinese, which the Nerazzurri won 5-3.

According to reports, the former Manchester City player suffered a strain in his left thigh flexors and will be re-evaluated in the coming days. It is very likely that he will remain sidelined until after the long international break.

There’s no good news for Hakan Calhanoglu either: the Turkish midfielder had to pull out at the last minute during the final training session due to muscle fatigue in his adductors. Calhanoglu will undergo tests later today to determine the extent of the problem. There are no major concerns, but the former Milan player is highly doubtful for next Saturday’s match against Roma. The medical staff wants to minimize the risks for a player who is frequently sidelined by muscle injuries: over the past two years, he has missed 28 matches.

After the match against Udinese, Chivu explained his team’s slow start: “I also need to carefully analyze what didn’t work; Udinese took full advantage of our lapses. But I expected it a bit—the Champions League really takes a toll on you. There were individual mistakes, and those are easier to fix. I need to reflect on what I didn’t convey to the team this week. We take some risks because we’re forced to do so given the roster we have. But that’s part of our identity—our opponents come at us high up the field. We’re not perfect, and we don’t even want to be.”
