Italian Cup: Fiorentina Knocks Out Pisa. Gnonto Scores His First Goal

Second game, second win for Paolo Vanoli’s Fiorentina. The Viola defeated Pisa 3-0 at the Franchi, advancing to the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, where they’ll face Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli. Goals by Pellegrino, Gnonto, and Pedro Gonçalves decided the match.

In the first half, the Gigliati broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a goal by Pellegrino: following a shot from outside the box by Dragusin, Scuffet parried the ball right to the feet of the former Parma player, who had an easy time scoring to make it 1-0. The home team also complained about two alleged penalties during the first half, but neither referee Marinelli nor VAR intervened.

But it was Fiorentina who struck again in stoppage time: Pedro Gonçalves scored the third goal with a shot from the edge of the box. The match ended without further drama; the Viola won their second consecutive game and bolstered their confidence ahead of their upcoming matches.
