A legendary former Torino player bids farewell to soccer

Tomas Rincon is retiring from soccer: the Venezuelan midfielder, a former star for Torino and Genoa, announced on social media that he has decided to hang up his cleats after parting ways with his most recent club, Santos.

“Soccer will always be a part of me. Thank you all. I never would have imagined the journey I’ve been on when I started as a child,” wrote the South American player, who also shared on Instagram posts from some of his teammates bidding him farewell. Accompanying the announcement, Rincón posted a video featuring highlights from his career, including his time in Italy with Genoa, Juventus, and Torino.

“El General,” wearing the maroon jersey, played from 2017 to 2022, appearing in a total of 162 matches across all competitions and scoring 7 goals. In Italy, he also played three years with Genoa, one year with Juventus, and a year and a half with Sampdoria. Among the other teams he played for were Hamburg and Santos.

He has made 143 appearances for the Venezuelan national team. During his career, he won a league title and an Italian Cup with Juventus in 2017.
