There’s a lot at stake for Italy at the European Athletics Awards, which honor the best European athletes in both the men’s and women’s categories. It all starts with Mondo Duplantis’s victory (he’s among the favorites again this year).

Among the 10 nominees in the men’s category are three Italian athletes: Andy Diaz, Massimo Stano, and Gimbo Tamberi. Each of them has achieved extraordinary results this season, so it’s certainly not a sin to think big.

Take Gianmarco Tamberi, for example, who had a season finale worthy of applause: he became European champion for the fourth time in Birmingham and won the “Ultimate” World Championships with the world’s best performance of the season (2.37).

On the women’s side, Italy is represented by Nadia Battocletti and Sofia Fiorini. The former, once again, has shone in every event. In Birmingham, for example, she won both the 5,000 and the 10,000. Gold and a world record in the marathon race walk went to the other Italian contender, Sofia Fiorini. The winners will be announced on October 24.
