Federica Brignone laughs it off: “New leg.” The goal is set

Good news regarding Federica Brignone’s physical condition. The two-time Olympic champion for Milan-Cortina 2026 has reassured everyone following her surgery in late August. In particular, she did so by posting some photos from a vacation in South Tyrol, with a lighthearted caption: “Easy girls’ weekend! And first steps on my new leg.”
The second surgery—to remove the remaining plates and screws from her knee, which she injured a year and a half ago—appears to have gone well, so much so that the athlete from the Aosta Valley is preparing for a new ski season. Her goal could be the World Championships in Crans-Montana, scheduled for February 1–14.
Meanwhile, in Italy, temperatures remain high despite it being mid-September, but for the world of alpine skiing, the new season has already begun. Preparations for the season opener in Sölden are in full swing, and the various teams are wrapping up their training camps on the snow.
Among the Italian women’s team, however, attention has focused primarily on Sofia Goggia in recent hours. The Bergamo-born champion’s schedule has, in fact, undergone an unexpected change, making her path for the coming weeks less clear. Goggia has cut short her stay in South America, where she was engaged in preseason training. After her time in Ushuaia, she was supposed to move to La Parva, Chile, to focus on specific training for the speed disciplines. However, this move did not materialize according to the initial plan.
The decision came as something of a surprise, especially since, until the middle of last week, her training seemed to be proceeding as usual. In particular, Goggia had been training in the giant slalom without showing any signs that would suggest an early return to Italy. Meanwhile, in Ushuaia, the other members of the Italian women’s team—including Elena Curtoni and Laura Pirovano—continue their preparations. For Goggia, the reigning super-G World Cup champion, it remains to be seen what her training schedule leading up to the new season will be and, above all, what reasons led to the change in her schedule.
