Novak Djokovic sends a defiant message to Jannik Sinner

Novak Djokovic has announced his return to the court, and he’ll do so at the same tournament where Jannik Sinner is (likely) set to return after his long hiatus following his Wimbledon victory. The Serbian tennis player, who was eliminated in the first round of the U.S. Open, has confirmed his participation in the China Open, which will take place in Beijing starting in late September, sending a clear message of challenge to the Italian and to Carlos Alcaraz.

““I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be returning to play in Beijing after so many years, at the China Open,” the Serbian legend said on Instagram. “I’m excited to return and play in front of all of you at the National Tennis Center, one of the most beautiful venues in the world of tennis. It’s a place where I’ve experienced incredible moments and achieved great successes throughout my career. I’d like to thank all the Chinese fans for their continued affection and support over the years. I can’t wait to play in front of you. See you soon!”

Upon his return, Sinner could face Nole right away in the tournament where the Serb boasts an incredible record: Djokovic is, in fact, completely undefeated in Beijing. Over the years, the Belgrade champion has competed in the tournament six times, winning all six—for a total of 29 matches won and 0 lost.

Djokovic will return to Beijing for the first time since his last appearance in 2015. Currently, the defending champion is Jannik Sinner, who defeated Learner Tien in last year’s final.
