The situation is getting… Gravett: there are signs of cutbacks
Acqua S.Bernardo Cantù’s run-up to the upcoming Serie A season has not been particularly reassuring. The string of losses during the preseason reportedly prompted the Brianza-based club to reassess its roster, and the first change could involve Hassani Gravett, who is said to be increasingly likely to part ways with the club.
The American player arrived in Cantù with a wealth of experience from both the United States and Europe. After his college years at the University of South Carolina, which culminated in a appearance in the 2017 NCAA Final Four, Gravett began his professional career with the Lakeland Magic, a G-League affiliate of the Orlando Magic. In the 2019–20 season, he averaged 11.7 points per game, helping the team win the Southeast Division title.
His first European experience came with MZT Skopje Aerodrom, where he made his mark by helping the team win the Macedonian league and cup titles while averaging 12.1 points per game. He then returned to the Lakeland Magic and earned a call-up to the NBA with the Orlando Magic, averaging 6.3 points in 21.5 minutes per game.
Gravett then continued his career in the G-League, playing for the Memphis Hustle and the Raptors 905, before returning to Europe in February 2023 to play in Germany for Oldenburg, where he averaged nearly 10 points per game in the Bundesliga.
In the 2023–24 season, he moved to Poland to play for Śląsk Wrocław, making his EuroCup debut and averaging 11.1 points in the competition. He then had a stint in the Dominican Republic with the Indios de San Francisco before moving to Sabah BC in Azerbaijan.
He spent two seasons with the Azerbaijani club, first competing in the FIBA Europe Cup and later in the Basketball Champions League. It was a two-year period filled with personal and team successes: two league titles, the Finals MVP award in 2025, two awards for best player of the season, and two for best defender.
An impressive resume that, however, may not be enough to extend his time in Brianza. After a difficult preseason for Cantù, Gravett’s position is now in jeopardy, and the possibility of a parting of ways appears increasingly likely.
