Guillaume Martin: Big News Is Coming

Guillaume Martin is switching teams and starting a new chapter in his career. The French rider, who is wrapping up his final season with Groupama-FDJ United, will race for Lotto’Intermarché in 2027, after signing a one-year contract that marks his return to the Belgian team. The news, now official, confirms the rumors that have been circulating in recent days and brings Martin back to a team he knows well.

For the 33-year-old, this is indeed a significant return: between 2016 and 2019, he had already raced for one of the Belgian team’s previous incarnations, when it was known as Wanty-Gobert. “I have nothing but fond memories of those years,” he told the team’s official channels. “CEO Bourlart and I have known each other since that time, and we’ve always stayed in touch. When I found out I’d have to look for a new team, I called him right away. Of course, a lot has changed since 2019, but at the same time, this isn’t a leap into the unknown.”

The Frenchman joins Lotto’Intermarché with clear ambitions. “Perhaps I’ve flown a bit under the radar in the last two years,” he admitted. “I still believe I have what it takes to fight for a top-ten finish in a Grand Tour. My 11th-place finish in the recent Vuelta reinforces that belief. The WorldTour remains my arena, and I feel I still have something to achieve at this level.”

“The Giro d’Italia is the only Grand Tour in which I haven’t yet managed to finish in the top ten, so that remains one of my dreams,” he explained further. “But of course, I’m also thinking about the Tour de France. For every French rider—and, in fact, for every rider—it remains a truly special race.”

In his new team, Martin will have a dual role: on the one hand, he’ll pursue his personal goals; on the other, he’ll draw on his experience to guide a young and growing squad. At 33, he’ll be one of the team’s key figures—a race captain capable of supporting emerging talents while remaining competitive in the races that matter.
