Cagliari fans are once again mocking Sebastiano Esposito: “Mercenary, a burden, stressed out”

Sebastiano Esposito’s disappointing performance in the Sassuolo-Monza match, in which the forward—who not only lacked impact but also gave away a penalty—has given new fuel to some Cagliari fans who—still disappointed by how his time in Sardinia ended—have taken to the Neroverdi club’s official Facebook page to mock their former idol.

“Esposito’s first game where he did absolutely nothing. He’ll have plenty more like that. According to his strange way of thinking about his salary… he should now return one 38th of his salary to Sassuolo. At Cagliari, he should have returned 20 out of 38 salary payments,” wrote Vincenzo. “Go Esposito—the stressed-out one strikes again; you’ve taken on quite a burden,” read Giuseppe’s message to Sassuolo fans.

“Great Seba Esposito—even when he doesn’t score, he still draws a penalty! The fact that he earned it for the wrong team is just a detail,” Francesco quipped. “You’ve got the star player Esposito—the one who decides games,” wrote another Giuseppe. Among the most succinct is certainly Antonello: “The mercenary didn’t score today,” he cuts to the chase.

Monza, against Sassuolo on Friday night, won its first game of the 2026–27 Serie A season: in the first half, chances for both sides; in the second half, Varela’s one-two proved decisive, scoring with a header—thanks to a mistake by opposing goalkeeper Muric—and on a penalty kick. In the closing minutes, Adzic scored a spectacular goal on a free kick for the final 1-2 score.
