Jannik Sinner: A new video has surfaced, but there’s no confirmation yet

Jannik Sinner hasn’t played an official match since winning the Wimbledon final in mid-July. Since then, a knee injury has forced him to sit out his entire North American tour, skipping tournaments in Canada and the United States. The Italian is now expected to make his return in Beijing, where he is officially entered, ahead of the Shanghai Masters 1000.

The world No. 1 has resumed training in Monte Carlo, and in recent days, the Piatti Tennis Center—the academy founded by Sinner’s former coach, Riccardo Piatti, has posted a video on its social media channels showing the South Tyrolean engaging in a few rallies with the young French tennis player Hugo Jathiere, a student of Piatti’s. This is yet another sign of his return to on-court training following his hiatus.

At the moment, no further details have emerged regarding the Italian’s physical condition, but his tentative schedule remains quite packed. After Beijing and Shanghai, Sinner is also officially entered in the ATP 500 in Vienna. He is also expected to participate in the Six Kings Slam first, while the Paris Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals are scheduled for the final part of the season.

The schedule, however, also raises an important issue related to the world rankings. In the second half of last season, Sinner won the title in Beijing, was eliminated in the round of 16 in Shanghai, and then won consecutively in Vienna, Paris, and at the Finals. Overall, through the end of the year, the Italian will therefore have to defend 3,550 points in the ATP rankings.

However, the schedule—which is shifted by one week compared to last season—makes the calculations more complex. Sinner will lose the 500 points he earned in Beijing 2025 as early as Monday, September 28, even though this year’s edition of the Chinese tournament won’t begin until Wednesday, September 30.

The ATP No. 1 will thus drop to 11,000 points. Behind him, Alexander Zverev will lose 100 points, starting from 9,590. If he does not participate in Beijing, Sinner’s lead over the German would shrink by at least 400 points. This situation makes the Italian’s return to the court and his performance in the final stretch of the season particularly important.
