Christian Eriksen leaves Wolfsburg after his latest health scare: “I need to be with my family”

Christian Eriksen has officially terminated his contract with Wolfsburg. The former Inter and Manchester United midfielder, who has been playing in the Bundesliga since 2025, announced that he has reached an agreement to terminate his contract, which was set to expire on June 30, 2027.

“Right now, it’s important for me to be close to my family in Denmark,” the player wrote in a statement. “I’m happy that we were able to find a solution together. My time at Wolfsburg has been marked by many ups and downs. I know the club is now in good hands to return to the Bundesliga, and I wish the club a successful future. I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who supported me in Wolfsburg.”

The Danish international, who has been playing for years with a subcutaneous defibrillator, implanted after he suffered cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 (Denmark vs. Finland), suffered another medical emergency on June 7 during an international friendly between Denmark and Ukraine. In the 65th minute, he collapsed and was immediately attended to by medical staff. Eriksen has not taken the field since then.

We wanted to give him that freedom in this particular situation, and we have now accepted his request to terminate his contract. Despite his brief time here, he has left a lasting impression on his teammates, our staff, and the fans. We would like to thank Christian and wish him and his family all the best.”
