David Coulthard Clashes Head-On with Charles Leclerc: Controversy Erupts

David Coulthard’s comments about Charles Leclerc have sparked a debate in the world of Formula 1. The former Scottish driver, now a commentator and analyst, openly criticized some of the Ferrari driver’s habits during the “Up To Speed” podcast, in which he referred to the constant presence in the paddock of Leclerc’s wife, Alexandra, and his dog Leo, the long-haired dachshund who often accompanies Leclerc during World Championship events.

According to Coulthard, Ferrari’s No. 16 is bringing elements into the circus that don’t quite fit with the competitive nature of Formula 1. “In the paddock, there’s his wife, who’s expecting a baby, and a dog. In my opinion, that’s a bit too much,” said the Scot. “It’s not a weekend picnic; it’s a Grand Prix. It’s a serious—and even dangerous—business, but maybe I’m from a different generation.”

The former driver’s comments have inevitably divided fans. On one hand, there are those who agree that a driver must maintain maximum concentration during the race weekend, on the other, those who consider it normal for modern Formula 1 drivers to balance their careers and private lives without compromising their performance on the track, noting also that drivers’ family members have always been with them inside the paddock.

On the racing front, Leclerc’s season remains positive in Coulthard’s view. The Monegasque driver has secured one victory—just like his teammate Lewis Hamilton—and several podium finishes, despite sitting fifth in the overall standings, 125 points behind the leader, Kimi Antonelli. In this regard as well, the Scot offered his own perspective on how things should work within the Scuderia: “The team has no choice but to adapt to its champions; it has two of the best drivers currently on the grid.”
