Elena Pero: Andrea Scanzi’s Pain

The death of Elena Pero has shocked tennis fans throughout Italy, as well as industry professionals and colleagues of the commentator, who had been with Sky for over 35 years.

Andrea Scanzi also expressed his grief and condolences over the passing of his colleague at age 60, remembering her in a Facebook post: “No, Elena. No. Her grace. Her expertise. Her enthusiasm. She was EXCELLENT. A devastating loss. I really have no words. There can be none. It’s atrocious. Atrocious.”

Paolo Bertolucci, who for years partnered with Elena Pero on Sky’s broadcasts, remembered her in this way with a video published by Sky: “It’s impossible to accept such a sudden farewell; I’ll always carry her in my heart. It’s impossible to find words that do justice to Elena Pero’s extraordinary professionalism. She loved tennis like no one else.”

The last match commentated on by Elena Pero, alongside Paolo Bertolucci, was the Wimbledon final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, won by the Italian.
