Montreal: Italy Takes Sixth and Seventh Place in the Under-23 Road Race

The World Cycling Championships in Montreal continue. The Men’s U23 road race took place, with two Italians finishing in the top seven. Matteo Scalco finished sixth, 55 seconds behind the American winner Ashlin Barry, while Mattia Negrente came in seventh, 1 minute and 19 seconds behind. Scalco was among the most active Italian riders when the race broke away: “I’ve been feeling great these past few days, so when the race broke up, I didn’t want to just hang back—I went for it myself. Toward the end, my legs were done, but I’m happy.”

Negrente, on the other hand, played his role with a possible tight finish in mind: “I’m happy because Matteo had a great race. My job was to wait for a possible small sprint group, which I ended up winning. All in all, I’m happy.”

Rounding out the Italian results were Alessandro Cattani, 38th, and Riccardo Lorello and Enea Sambinello, 47th and 48th, respectively.
